Silat Kalimah
Silat Kalimah Panglima Tangkas originated from the core art of Silat Kalimah, which is one the oldest known silat arts in Malaysia. It is believed to have been founded in 512 AH (After Hegira), or 1118 AD, by Almarhum Sheikh Abdullah from Persia. It is believed to have been taught to the family of Maharaja Derbar Raja II (The 9th ruler of Kedah) in the year 1118 AD, during the era of the 'Old Kedah Dynasty' (before Malacca).
The art was kept secret within the Sultan's family for centuries before it was finally revealed to commoners during the reign Sultan Ahmad Tajuddin III (1854 - 1879). It was at this time that the Sultan taught the art to his right hand Warrior and Admiral known as Panglima Ismail who in turn taught it to Panglima Hadi, which was handed down to Panglima Tok Rashid and a few others before finally being entrusted to the late Tok Guru Yahya Bin Said in 1923. Its contemporaries from the same lineage include Silat Kalimah Yahya Said, Silat Kalimah Malaysia and Silat Kalimah Amin, all of which are very similar in form and history. Other very closely related systems are Silat Cekak Hanafi, Silat Cekak Malaysia, Silat Panglima Tok Rashid, Silat Kalam and Silat Kuntau Tekpi. (A few others still remain unknown or undiscovered).

Silat Doesn’t Teach Attacking Moves?
I got from another blog about silat..
Based on my observation, I noticed that many Silat organizations (in Malaysia) do not teach their students how to attack their opponents. Most Silat groups only emphasize on self defense. (Please correct me if I’m wrong.)
Last saturday I met a Silat instructor whom I considered has opened my eyes. In his Silat style, not only he teaches his students how to defend themselves, he also teaches them how to attack.
According to this instructor, attacking is as important as defending. Imagine a situation where somebody holds your sister, what will you do? Waiting for the attacker to hit you first? This is why learning how to attack is very important.
Ever heard of this: “The Best Defence is Attack”?
Seni Silat Cekak
Seni Silat Cekak is a Malay art (Seni) of self defence (Silat) which is genuinely original and can be counted upon to preserve life. It is not a style of silat which is ceremonious in nature used for perfomances at traditional Malay weddings such as Silat Pulut or Silat Pengantin. As such, Silat Cekak does not have any musical accompaniment such as the traditional Malay drum or Gendang and does not perform graceful dance-like movements for public amusement such as Silat Pengantin.
In fact, Silat Cekak does not utilize any evading nor side stepping techniques, whether to the left or right, in mortal combat. It deals with hostile aggression head on. Thus, Silat Cekak is a combat oriented art. Seni Silat Cekak contains original techniques which has never been altered ever since it came into being as a system of self defence. The system consists of hitting and maiming techniques (buah pukulan) as well as a complete array of body and limb locking techniques (buah kuncian) in its arsenal of fighting manouvers.

Ehmm...this nite we at ums have another class for this week..im reallt tired this week...because im have full class, do too much think, handle work,proceed the asignment and others job..an when im want to check my Adsense account also too busy..
Our club in ums establish since 10 years ago..so, for newbie and members in ums this is the information u must know..for the kokum student, u must get the cd for member's club..the cd content is video files, history about club, history about silat cekak hanafi, the advantages of this martial arts and the song of silat cekak in format mp3..just grab it now..in this month the cd is free but, in september the cd is sold in pricee RM3..i hope u got this information fast...tell the others student n member..the important for kokum students..haha, im very glaad when i heard the kokum for this martial arts in ums was come back..so, take this chance to grab a better chance to club future..

OFFICIAL WEAPONRY Not unlike other silat, Silat Cekak Hanafi also has its own official weapon which is the Lading; which, in the whole of Malaysia, is only well-known in the state of Kedah Darul Aman. This weapon is used by practitioners of Silat Cekak Hanafi to defend against all manner empty handed or weapon attacks.However, the Lading is only presented to those practitioners who have reached a certain level and whose loyalty to the association has been proven. Most of these recipients are those who have been actively involved in the movement fro more than ten years.
The size and shape of the Lading depends on the user since each practitioner has a different proportion and body measurement. Below are the measurement of the Lading:1. The length of the Lading ius equal to the distance between the left ear to the right eye or right ear to the left eye of the user.
Its hidden meaning: The weapon will arrive at whatever is seen or heard. (A)
2. The width of the Lading at its hilt is the same as the width of the users thumbnail. (B)
3. The width of end of the blade is the same as the length of the users thumbnail. (C)
4. The length of the cutting edge itself is the same as the distance between the two eyes of the user. (D)
5. The hilt of the Lading takes the shape of deer’s hoof and is made from the forn of a female buffalo. (E)

To all practitioners of Silat Cekak Hanafi, the late Ustaz Haji Hanafi Haji Ahmad is a supreme leader in the realm of Silat Melayu. This title is given to commend his efforts in giving new life and meaning to a Malay martial heritage. This was proven on the 5th of Ramadhan 1385 Hijriah coinciding with the 28th of December 1965 AD, when after much effort on his part, Ustaz Hanafi learned this art from Yahya Said.Served posthumously, this title also credits his innovative teaching system and silat method whereby its benefits and martial qualities could be scientifically and logically valued as a method of self-defence by the public. He was also the first silat teacher to succeed in placing Malay silat on par with a modern professionally-managed organization.
Ustaz Hanafi Haji Ahmad hailed from Kedah; born in Kampung Sungai Baru, Mukim Gunung, Alor Setar in 1923. Following the norm of the day, he received his early education in a Melayu-vernacular school in Kampung Gunung, Alor Setar, Kedah and continued his religious studies at a few Religious Schools with a few Islamic scholars in Kedah.
Searching for true understanding towards Allah and following the Holy Prophet’s example, Ustaz Hanafi Haji Ahmad decided to sacrifice his youth to deepen his religious knowledge with a few famous scholars throughout the country, going as far as Singapore. The learning process to become a true servant of Allah, required him to support himself by selling pastries, traditional medicine and travelling throughout Malaysia to find a true teacher.
As a result of his patience and perseverance, it was Allah’s Will that Ustaz Hanafi met with Pak Haji Zain Abdul Rahman, who succeeded in explaining and summarizing for him the reality of divinity towards Allah using the book Al-Hikam written by Ibni Ataillah Al-Iskandari as a guide.The struggle for independence of British rule struck a chord in the nationalistic soul of Ustaz Hanafi Haji Ahmad to fight for the rights of the Malay people. The field most suited to him as a true Malay was Silat Melayu. Ustaz Hanafi was sure that the Malay people had a combat form that was no less powerful than the martial arts of other cultures.
A detailed research into many Malay martial arts was carried out. The process of searching for one silat that could truly be effective for self-defence once again required that Ustaz Hanafi travel, becoming a servant to teachers, learning many different silat, and selling traditional medicine all around Malaysia. Finally, with the Will of Allah, he met Yahya Said.
Yahya Said practiced Silat Cekak and for 40 years, had sought a replacement worthy of the art itself. With his impressive knowledge of the Malay language, Ustaz Hanafi encapsulated Silat Cekak in simple but accurate verses, now immortalized in the Silat Cekak poems and philosophy.He was also the man responsible to breathe new hope and faith to Silat Melayu as an art worthy of study by the Malay people. He revived the respect of the masses towards an art tarnished by ignorance and superstition; an art that has withstood the riot of rain and the sear of shine. As a dynamic pioneer in organizational management, he provided a new image to Silat Melayu in a silat organization.
It is clear that a huge part of the success of Silat Cekak’s popularity among the Malay masses today is the result of the vision of Ustaz Hanafi; the supreme leader of Silat Cekak. Now, Silat Cekak Hanafi is available to be learnt at most learning institutions. Friend or foe, respectful or disrespectful students, acknowledge and appreciate him as a Principal with caliber, courage and perseverance.
Ustaz Hanafi Haji Ahmad passed away on the 13th of August 1986 at Kuala Lumpur at the age of 63 years leaving behind a widow Maimunah Haji Othman and six children. His vision continues to this day as led by his fourth son, Md. Radzi Haji Hanafi.

The concept of this martial arts..
Silat Cekak Hanafi is a truly original art of self-defence and is not a silat for play or sport (Silat Olahraga). Silat Cekak Hanafi has set methods with strike forms and complete locking techniques. The movement and system of this silat is based on the natural movements of the human being grounded in healthy thought, a calm soul and is clearly compatible with with the principles of Islam.Its studies place emphasis on self-defence to inculcate courage, not violence or violation. Only when absolutely necessary and for the sake of safety does Silat Cekak Hanafi attack first.Silat Cekak Hanafi awaits attacks in a straight-backed high stance (the stance used in salat) and does not employ evasions to the left of right; but moves forward in a single intercepting movement.
In reality, Silat Cekak Hanafi is a silat based on the study of movement (Silat Gerak).Most surprising and curious of all is, during its method of attack, the opponent would find it impossible to avoid, and if he were to parry the attack would lead to a devastating counterattack. This is due to the practitioner’s ability to attack and trap in one move. (Cekak menyerang, Cekak menangkap). Silat Cekak Hanafi in package?
Silat Cekak Hanafi is taught to completion in a course package. Normally, the course package may be completed within 6 months. This duration may also be adapted to coincide with the semester schedule of public schools or higher learning institutions. After completion, the practitioners may increase their level of skill personally or by attending skill classes organized from time to time.
As a silat based on fine movements, it does not need to employ a great deal of strength or force to defeat an opponent. The method of study is systematic, is not detrimental to the practitioner and allows the practitioners the ability to defend oneself even in quarters as narrow as a plank.
Futhermore, in our college at ums, we have a class at tuesday and friday night in ums stadium..and in indah permai college at monday and wednesday night.Our coach time that evert night we have a class.Every class we remind the 'buah' and their move.Tried to do the good and get to know how to make that move..some move is practically and some move or 'buah' is dificullt..but it can be easy we concentrate to learn about it..how? u ask for it..
the Philosophy of silat cekak Hanafi..
"Pakai Tak Pakai, Tak Pakai Pakai"Translator’s note: It is difficult to translate this phrase into English without it sounding culturally inept. However, Pakai which means Use, Wear or Employ denotes the combat sensitivity represented by Tak Pakai (Disuse, Unused). In effect, it means to convey a contradicting duality that if the opponent uses a certain method, the practitioner refrains from using it and vice versa, almost a hard/soft discussion all on its own.

Silat Cekak Hanafi is so named to honour one its greatest teachers, the late Ustaz Hanafi Haji Ahmad. It denotes that this Silat Cekak, as compared to others was the silat that was practiced and conveyed by him be it in terms of pedagogy, concept, philosophy, principle, integrity, spirituality and others.
This silat was practiced by the royal family and high-ranking governor-generals (panglima) of the state of Kedah Darul Aman in the then Peninsular of Malaya during the reign of Sultan Ahmad Tajuddin. The earliest known master of this silat was Panglima Ismail who taught it to Panglima Tok Rashid.
He, in turn entrusted this silat to Yahya Said, a native of the neibouring state of Perak with an instruction; to return it to its rightful place amongst his Kedah countrymen. In 1965, as per the late Panglima Tok Rashid’s trust, Yahya Said conveyed and entrusted this silat to Ustaz Hanafi.
Since its rebirth at the hands of Ustaz Hanafi, a new era had dawned for Silat Cekak. He introduced a new spirit and a new approach, all the while succeeding in raising the status of Silat Cekak as a movement that is respected by friend and foe; one that is continuously able to contribute positively to society.
This silat has succeeded in attracting thousands of members from all walks of life including the intellectual and professional realms.
Now, the Malaysian Seni Silat Cekak Ustaz Hanafi Association (Persatuan Seni Silat Cekak Ustaz Hanafi Malaysia) has 11 state chapters and organizes silat classes in most universities and higher learning institutions in Malaysia. The fourth child of Ustaz Hanafi, Md. Radzi Haji Hanafi is presently the Principal and President of the association.
